Academic Conference on “The Meanings and Uses of the Declaration of Independence at 250 Years”
This unusual conference brings together college professors, secondary educators, and high-school students in sessions that feature scholarly papers and teaching demonstrations devoted to exploring the historical context, societal uses, and legacies of the Declaration of Independence on its 250th anniversary. Our keynote speaker is the Pulitzer-Prize winning historian David Blight. His remarks will focus on Frederick Douglass’s 1852 speech, “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?”
