Hingham’s Revolutionary Weekend

May 17, 2025 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Keep the revolutionary spirit alive with the Hingham Historical Society! Join us for Hingham’s Revolutionary Weekend May 17-18, 2025, celebrating ordinary people who did extraordinary things and unwittingly became authors of American history.

Hingham’s Revolutionary Weekend

To commemorate this incredible milestone, the Hingham Historical Society, Discover Hingham, the Town of Hingham and the Hingham Militia have partnered to launch the inaugural Hingham Revolutionary Weekend!

The event will feature guided tours, fife and drum performances, bell ringing, Springham!, a Taste of Americana pop up, kite flying, and more games and activities for revolutionaries of all ages. The weekend culminates in the 250th commemorative reenactment of the Battle of Grape Island, the oft overlooked “second” battle of the American Revolution.

This family-friendly event begins with a special MBTA ferry service from Boston to Hingham. Encourage city friends to attend Revolutionary Weekend or plan a night out in Boston after our local events.

The Benjamin Lincoln House and Old Ordinary will be open for guided tours throughout the day, and our expert guides are offering special Revolutionary Hingham walking tours around Hingham Square. The popular Hingham History Cart will also be out and about! Click the links below or visit us in person at the Hingham Heritage Museum to get your tickets.

Please note: Maximum capacity in the Hingham History Cart Tours is 4 guests, plus our driver.

Battle of Grape Island

On May 21, 1775, a skirmish broke out on Grape Island, then owned by Hingham loyalist Elijah Leavitt.

To commemorate the 250th anniversary, the Hingham Militia, Wareham Militia, and the 64th Light Infantry will reenact this pivotal moment. Ceremonial remarks, historic narrative, music, and refreshments will be provided.
