“Newport 1775: Whose Side Are You On?” Exhibition Opening Night
An opening reception will be held on May 15 to introduce Newport 1775, the Newport Historical Society’s latest exhibition.
Newport 1775 explores the complex lives and choices of Patriots and Loyalists in colonial Newport, revealing how individuals shaped history during uncertain and turbulent times.
Newport 1775: Whose Side Are You On?
How would you respond to the call of the Revolution?
Through this exhibit, follow six Newporters as they navigate daily challenges in a city on the brink of rebellion. As you move through the exhibition, discover how news spread, opinions formed, and fear and uncertainty grew in the days leading up to war.
Moreover, the exhibit features interactive displays, authentic period artifacts, daily media coverage, and a 17th-century printing press in action. Newport 1775 will be on view May 15 through December, free of charge, at the Newport Historical Society’s Richard I. Burnham Resource Center.
